New Year’s Eve nails: A little glitter is a must
On New Year’s Eve you can go all out. Everything that shines and glitters is perfect – even when it comes to nails. Whether as coarse-grained glitter particles or subtle metallic elements, New Year’s nails impress with their shimmering look. They are playful, glamorous and sometimes borderline kitsch. And even if the nail salon is closed, most nail designs can be easily recreated at home.
New Year’s Eve nails: Simple, but even more beautiful

Instead of relying on a single color, a harmonious play of colors makes the music here. The important thing is: stick to one color scheme, because if it gets too colorful, the nails will look too summery. Colors such as: burgundy, beige, brown, gold and silver are ideal for the perfect New Year’s nails.

On New Year’s Eve we can finally unpack our beloved glitter nail polishes again. What seems “over the top” the rest of the year is just right on New Year’s Eve. Glitter particles of different sizes, which are distributed on the fingernail without any discernible structure, are particularly popular.
The glitter look looks particularly cool if the base and top coat are transparent, then the nails resemble a shower of shooting stars.
New Year’s nails in 80s style
The 80s are back and so are the latest manicure trends. One look in particular can be convincing on New Year’s Eve: With metallic nails you will be the hit of every New Year’s party. There are no limits to your creativity when it comes to nails. Metallic varnishes can either be applied opaquely by painting the nails two to three times, or mixed with a color. The result is iridescent colors that create a glamorous disco feeling.
New Year’s nails: Matt and elegant
Dark red nails are still classics when it comes to Christmas or New Year’s Eve. The manicure gets a stylish update in a matt look. For the lips, matt colors have become an indispensable part of the cosmetics market since Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits, and elegant nail art is also on the rise in manicures.
In combination with the matching lipstick, you will quickly become the style queen of the evening. And the good thing: If you don’t have matte nail polish at hand, you can achieve the dull look with simple tricks.
- Trick 1: Baking powder is a real all-rounder. Not only can you use it to clean your ceramic hob, the home remedy also creates a matt look on your nails in just a few minutes. To do this, simply sift the baking powder and apply it to the still wet nail polish with a brush. As soon as the nails are dry, the baking soda can be wiped off – Voila, the matte nails are ready!
- Trick 2: This life hack is not only free, but also super simple. With steam, even your favorite nail polish can be given a matte update, no matter how dazzling it may be. Simply apply the nail polish to your nails and after the second pass, hold your fingers over a pot of boiling water. Be careful that the hand is not too deep. Splashes of water can prevent the paint from drying. If you rotate your fingers so that the entire nails are surrounded by water vapor, you can see a difference after just a few seconds.
Remove glitter nail polish correctly
As much as we love glitter particles in nail polish, they are a nightmare for any nail polish remover. But we also know a trick for this that will remove even the last bit of glitter from the nail. All you need is:
- nail polish remover
- cotton pads
- Aluminum foil
Simply soak the cotton pads with nail polish remover, place the pads on your fingernails and then secure them with a piece of aluminum foil. The whole thing needs to take effect for between five and ten minutes and you will have well-groomed nails again.
