Newport Beach: Adam Brody (Seth) had to play another role!

Comedian Adam Brody will surprise all fans of “Newport Beach”, aka “The OC”, by revealing that he did not audition for the role of Seth Cohen, but for a completely different character.

Ahhhh Newport Beach… Marissa who made goat Ryan, Sandy and Kirsten who were the best parents in the world and of course Seth, the caustic, geeky, shy and terribly endearing best friend, played by Adam Brody. But the actor has just revealed that he originally didn’t want to play this character!

Podcast guest Just for VarietyBrody returned to his career, notably making a revelation about his debut in the series The OC, known in France under the title Newport Beach:

I auditioned for the role of Ryan. I didn’t want… They wanted me to do it for Seth and I was like, ‘No thanks, I’ll be [Ryan] (laughs)!’ Then I remember that [Patrick Rush, le directeur de casting], said to me: ‘Great. Can you do Seth now?’

It is obviously for this character that he finally caught the attention of the creators of the series, to the point of moving on to the “test” stage: this moment when the prospective actors of a project meet to find out if there is an alchemy or at least a compatibility between them:

“And then, on the tests, I read that Ben [McKenzie] had already had the role, I passed with him, and I liked it a lot. There was a good vibe in the room, I felt I had it, I felt comfortable [avec Seth]. That’s what I remember.”

Obviously, for fans of the series, Adam Brody is now inseparable from his role as Seth Cohen, Ben’s best friend, and Summer’s lover, played by Rachel Bilson. The OC chronicled the lives of four teenagers (and their friends and parents) in Orange County, California. Drama, emotion and humor guaranteed!

Recently, Adam Brody has been busy filming interesting and/or ambitious projects, from the friendly Finished Playing to the drama series Anatomy of a Divorce through the superheroic saga Shazam!, whose last opus was however a bitter failure at the box office.
