Culture news Dragon Ball exists in the Bleach universe, the proof is clear

Dragon Ball and Bleach, two of the most popular manga and anime, share more than just one genre in common… shonen. Akira Toriyama’s work exists in the universe imagined by Tite Kubo. The recent broadcast of a Bleach spin-off provided still skeptical fans with the ultimate proof.

Dragon Ball x Bleach

What is the real connection between Bleach and Dragon Ball? The broadcast of the prologue of the anime Burn the Witch answered this thorny question. Posted online at the end of December 2023, prequel #0.8 of the Bleach spin off manages in less than 30 minutes to cite two of the most cult animated series. In the middle of the episode, the heroine Niihashi Noel’s phone rings and the music that sounds is likely to thrill Dragon Ball fans. The famous musical theme from the episode summaries is triggered and at the same time confirms that the Dragon Ball anime, and therefore the manga as well as Akira Toriyama himself, exist in the Bleach universe. The same goes for Sailor Moon, whose opening accompanies the post-credits scene of Burn the Witch #0.8.

Burn the Witch (stylized BURN ☩HE WITCH) is a manga written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. Published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine published by Shueisha, this one-shot is officially part of the Bleach universe although the latter takes place in London and presents a magical universe populated by dragons and inspired, among other things, by Harry Potter. In 2020, Burn the Witch returns with four new chapters while an animated film sees the light of day. Finally, the prologue chapter is in turn adapted for the small screen at the end of 2023 and broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan and Crunchyroll in the rest of the world.

Historically, 72% of deaths in London have been linked to dragons, fantastical beings invisible to the majority of people. Despite everything, some people stood up to them. Only residents of the hidden part of London can see these creatures. But among them, barely a few chosen ones become wizards or witches, the only beings authorized to enter into contact with them. – Crunchyroll
