In 2024, the pleasant surprise of animated cinema could well come from China. The Kingdom of the Abyss is soon arriving in French theaters and is about to amaze us.

The jewel of Chinese animated cinema?

China has been investing in animated cinema for several years now with varying degrees of success. If productions from the Middle Kingdom perhaps struggle to establish themselves with their stories, it is more on the technical side that Chinese studios manage to make an impression. The country’s animes are now seriously being talked about and animated cinema could experience a real boom with some promising projects, including The Kingdom of the Abyssa film by Tian Xiaopeng.

We follow the story of Shenxiu, a 10-year-old girl who, during a shipwreck, is sucked into the abyss. There she discovers a wonderful world populated by strange creatures and ends up landing in the Abyss Restaurant, run by Captain Nahne. A fantastic odyssey that promises to be epic, for young and old, which also has absolutely breathtaking animation.

Release planned for February

Yes, what is striking when we see the first images of the Kingdom of the Abyss is above all the superb animation from which the film benefits. A stunning, colorful 3D animation, full of details, which is shaking up the entire industry. We obviously hope that this story will manage to speak to Western audiences, but we are certain that the technique will hit the mark. And the good news is that this feature film is arriving very soon in French cinemas. Join us on February 21 to discover The Kingdom of the Abyss, a film that could seriously become one of the most incredible visual experiences of the year.
