Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer

While we already knew the main members of the new version of the Fantastic Four, we learned this week of a new addition to the casting of the next Marvel film. Thus, it is the actress Julia Garner who joins Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn as Shalla-Bal, a character from the comics, originally presented as the main love interest by Norrin Radd, aka the Silver Surfer. But this time, the empress of the planet Zenn-La will also take on the role of her lover by becoming the Silver Surfer, a role that has only been assigned to her once in the entire Marvel universe and which then leaves us wondering about the scenario of this new feature film.

An extremely rare role

In the original comics, Norrin Radd is the servant of Galactus and must go in search of planets in order to feed his master. Shalla-Bal for her part reigns on Norrin Radd’s home planet, Zenn-La. The Empress acts primarily as a supporting character during almost all of the Silver Surfer’s adventures, although she borrows her cosmic powers on rare occasions. But ultimately, the Silver Surfer version of Shalla-Bal only really exists in one Marvel volume, namely volume 12 of the Earth-X limited saga, which features a dystopian parallel universe (Earth-9997) .

It is therefore a daring, but rather original and intriguing decision that Marvel Studios is taking for this new film. Let us also remember that the Silver Surfer co-exists with her male version. We therefore obviously hope to find Norrin Radd alongside Shalla-Bal, but for the moment nothing is less certain. Response at the latest when the film is released, set for July 25 next year.
