If you like action games with a bit of difficulty, you are probably waiting for the arrival of Stellar Blade at the end of the month. Still scheduled for release on April 26 exclusively on PlayStation 5, the first game intended for a home console from SHIFT UP is currently eagerly awaited by players, despite some controversies concerning the design and the staging around the main character. In order to support the upcoming release of their new game, the developers from SHIFT UP decided to reveal a little more about the design of Stellar Blade in an interview given directly on the PlayStation blog.

During the latter, the game director Kim Hyung Tae and the technical director Lee Dong Gi talk in particular about their passion for video games in general and the challenge posed by making a first game intended for a home console. Lucid about the reception that Stellar Blade could have had if it was not developed seriously, they notably confirmed that they quickly put aside their lack of experience to ensure that this reality was not noticed not :

I’m realistic and don’t think our fans would have been kinder to us just because it’s our first console game. Instead, we chose to raise our standards to the same level as what players expect from their console games and ensured that Stellar Blade would be as good as any other game available on console.

Stellar Blade is inspired by a famous manga from the 90s

We’ve known this for a while now, but Stellar Blade will take place in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic version of planet Earth. Ravaged by creatures called Naytiba (who decimated the human species and forced it into exile on a space colony), Earth is no longer really a planet full of life when Eve returns to reconquer it. In addition to confronting them, she will have to learn more about the origins of these creatures to understand how they got there.

According to the developers, establishing their universe in a post-apocalyptic world was a real challenge. Indeed, environments can quickly become monotonous, and this is something they wanted to avoid. To do this, they were therefore inspired by science fiction works from the 80s and 90s:

People have their own vision of what a post-apocalyptic world is based on what they have already seen in films and other works. I’m sure many players will appreciate and admire the detail and thought we put into creating the vibrant and realistic post-apocalyptic world of Stellar Blade. The younger generation of players, on the other hand, will probably find our universe quite innovative.

After revealing that they were inspired by works from the 80s and 90s to create their universe, the developers then further clarified their references by citing in particular the famous science fiction manga Gunnm. If you already thought Eve looked a little like Alita, now you know why. This is all the more true since they went on to say thatthey took a lot of inspiration from the film Alita: Battle Angel adapted from this manga, released in 2019. If you haven’t yet seen the latter or you haven’t yet read the original manga, you can keep yourself busy by doing so before the release of Stellar Blade on April 26.
