News from winter sports – Vogt also just next to the podium in the four-man bobsleigh – Sport

  • Michael Vogt made an attractive start to the season in four-man bobsleigh at the World Cup in Whistler.
  • Cross-country skier Nadine Fähndrich finished the 20 km pursuit in Kuusamo in 15th place. In the men’s race, Roman Furger advanced from 49th to 16th place.
  • The second competition in Kuusamo ends disappointingly for the Swiss ski jumpers.

Bob: Vogt also placed 4th in the four-man bobsleigh

Michael Vogt started the 4-man bobsleigh World Cup season with a 4th place finish. Together with Silvio Weber, Alain Knuser and Sandro Michel, the Schwyzer missed the podium in Whistler, Canada, by 0.12 seconds. The day before, Vogt had also finished fourth together with brakeman Michel in the two-man bobsleigh. Cédric Follador and Simon Friedli reached positions 7 and 9 with their crews. However, with only nine bobsleighs started, these positions are hardly meaningful. Victory on the 2010 Olympic track went to Germany’s Francesco Friedrich. The record world champion also triumphed in the two-man bobsleigh on Saturday.

On Saturday evening, Melanie Hasler and her brakewoman Nadja Pasternack were able to celebrate their second World Cup podium finish in the two-man bobsleigh. The two Swiss women were leading after the first run, but ultimately missed victory by two tenths.

Cross-country skiing: Fähndrich holds out over 20 km

At the end of the cross-country skiing World Cup in Kuusamo, Nadine Fähndrich finished 15th in the skating pursuit. The sprinter from Central Switzerland had already started from this position over the new standard distance of 20 km for both sexes. The gap to the winner Frida Karlsson from Sweden was 2:26 minutes, the top ten were more than a minute away. Nadja Kälin (42nd) lost 9:30 minutes to the day’s winner.

Cross-country skiing: Kläbo superior, Furger with a big catch-up race

Johannes Hösflot Kläbo is currently clearing everything for the men. He also won the third race of the season. Behind the Norwegian, the Swiss showed decent performances over 20 km pursuit. Roman Furger advanced from 49th to 16th place and defeated team colleague Beda Klee (17th) in the final sprint.

Ski jumping: Swiss without World Cup points

The Swiss ski jumpers around team leader Gregor Deschwanden finally have to accept a weak start to the season. Even after the second competition in Kuusamo and the fourth World Cup competition overall, they are without points. Deschwanden missed the leap into the final round on Sunday as 31st. Dominik Peter survived the qualification for the first time, but then had no chance. The Austrian Stefan Kraft and the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud won in Finland with the same number of points. Killian Peier missed the start of the season due to a patellar tendinitis and is expected to return to the World Cup in two weeks.
