More than 200 musicians are rebelling against the use of AI

More than 200 music creators have signed an open letter calling for an end to the irresponsible use of AI.
Billie Eilish (22), Finneas (26), Nicki Minaj (41), Stevie Wonder (73) and numerous other musicians have signed an open letter, in which they denounce the irresponsible use of AI. The non-profit organization Artist Rights Alliance called for the merger.
In the letter, which was also joined by Camila Cabello (27), Elvis Costello (69) and Jon Bon Jovi (62), the artists call on AI developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to stop the use of artificial intelligence “to infringe and devalue the rights of human artists.”
On the organization announced on Tuesday the list of supporters, including the Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry (39), Kim Petras (31), Mac DeMarco (33), Mumford & Sons, Norah Jones (45), Pearl Jam, REM, The- Cure singer Robert Smith (64) and Zayn Malik (31). The tweet said: “AI has enormous potential as a tool for human creativity – but when used irresponsibly, it poses an existential threat to our art.”
Artists see AI as an “enormous threat”
The letter is directed against the “enormous threat” that AI represents in the eyes of the signatories: “Some of the largest and most powerful companies are using our work to train AI models without permission.” The work of human artists should be replaced and royalties watered down. The letter warns: “This would be catastrophic for many working musicians, artists and songwriters who are barely making ends meet.” It goes on to say that the music ecosystem would be destroyed and that one must “protect oneself against the predatory use of AI”.
The signatories see the uncontrolled use of AI in music as an “attack on human creativity” and call on those involved to “commit not to develop or use AI music generation technology, content or tools.”
