The electric scooter specialist NIU has presented its ambitions in terms of electric cars with a very first connected model by the name of Niutron NV. Its official announcement expected in March should precede a start of production… in September.

Tackling the electric car market is no small feat. On the one hand, because the sector is becoming more and more structured with solid established players, and on the other hand, because the financial investment and production logistics require colossal resources and precise and meticulous specifications. .
However, this is what NIU, a Chinese company mainly known for its electric scooters, intends to do. Established on the French market, the manufacturer enjoys a certain popularity in our region thanks to a catalog with good value for money. But the group’s ambitions go well beyond two wheels.
Like an air of Ford Bronco
NIU has indeed presented its very first connected vehicle launched under its Niutron brand: the electric SUV Niutron NV, reports the site Hibridos y electricos. And the least we can say is that the first published visuals make it look like a Ford Bronco. This impression is reinforced by its “cubic” design, but with more fluid lines.
It is especially at the front that the resemblance is striking, with its ring-shaped lights and the horizontal light signature that crosses the grille. This effect is applied to the rear of the vehicle, at the tailgate. This has the merit of giving it a nice touch of modernity.

The vehicle’s spec sheet has yet to be revealed in full. But some specifications have already filtered to give us an idea of its size. The Niutron NV is 4915mm long, so it sits between the Tesla Model Y (4750mm) and the Tesla Model X (5036mm). Count 1950 mm wide and 1750 mm high.
Based on the new Gemini platform, the four-wheeler can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. All in all, an honorable time for this large SUV, which does not however rank it among the best in its segment. Regarding the characteristics, that’s all there is to get your teeth into for the moment.
An ambitious plan
On the other hand, NIU seems very ambitious regarding the commercial timetable for its Niutron NV. The firm is currently building a new 770,000 square meter factory in Changzhou, accompanied by a research and development center. The idea is to present the SUV in March, for production in September.
The industrial site would be capable of building 180,000 units per year. The fact is that between the creation of the brand at the end of 2021 and the start of production, less than a year could pass if NIU sticks to its schedule. For a group that has never built electric cars, but has experience in scooters, it’s quite a challenge.
