No typo – Pioneer: Hybrid off-roader with a range of 7000 km!

The British start-up Fering plans to bring a hybrid off-road vehicle called Pioneer onto the market next year. The long-legged all-wheel drive should be recommended for expeditions and rescue missions with an exceptionally long range.

Visually, the four-door model is a modern mix of a Hummer pick-up and the legendary Lamborghini LM002 off-road vehicle. Like these two models, the Pioneer also has an open loading area behind the passenger cabin. The vehicle, which is more than 5.5 meters long, rests on 22.5-inch wheels.

The off-road vehicle has an electric all-wheel drive, which should provide 600 Newton meters of torque for a climbing ability of up to 60 percent. The Pioneer drives a maximum of 125 km / h.

The comparatively small battery enables an electric range of 80 kilometers. A 0.8-liter three-cylinder diesel with 70 kW / 95 PS is also on board, which acts as a generator and charges the battery. This should enable a range of up to 7000 kilometers, which allows the Pioneer to be used far away from any charging infrastructure. Climate-neutral operation is possible as long as the combustion engine is fed with biodiesel.

So far, Fering has published photos of heavily camouflaged prototypes as well as computer retouching of the series version. The young company plans to start producing them in the first half of 2022. Only 150 to 200 vehicles are to be built annually. Prices will start at around 175,000 euros. (spx)
