AI imitates US politicians – OpenAI blocks developers

There have been warnings about the use of artificial intelligence in election campaigns for a long time, but now the emergency is occurring. A development team uses a bot to impersonate a Democratic politician. In response, OpenAI bans the creators.
According to the Washington Post, ChatGPT operator OpenAI has blocked the developer of a bot that imitates Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips. This is the first action the Microsoft partner has taken in response to misuse of its artificial intelligence (AI) tools in a political campaign, the newspaper reported.
“We recently removed a developer account that knowingly violated our usage guidelines, which prohibit political campaigning or impersonating a person without consent,” OpenAI said in a statement.
According to the Washington Post article, the two Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Matt Krisiloff and Jed Somers are behind the Dean.Bot, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. They founded the political action committee “We Deserve Better” – which in turn signed a contract with the AI start-up Delphi.
OpenAI blocked the AI start-up’s account late on Friday (local time), pointing out that OpenAI’s rules prohibit the use of its technology in political campaigns. The start-up removed the bot after the account was blocked. Neither the political action committee “We Deserve Better” nor Delphi have yet commented on the matter.
Just last week, OpenAI countered fears about election interference with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). Open AI emphasizes that its policies prohibit using its technology in ways that are considered potentially abusive. This includes creating chatbots that can pretend to be real people, create a mood and thus influence people’s voting behavior.
