Spotted by CCTV cameras at the Leclerc store in Tignieu-Jameyzieu on January 25, 2021, a customer was caught in the act of changing the barcodes of eight bottles of wine. He was then apprehended by security guards as he left the checkouts, while the store filed a complaint with the gendarmes of Pont-de-Chéruy.
325 bottles in one year
The investigators and the management of the store then discover that it is a real habit of the customer, report our colleagues from the Dauphiné Libéré. The brand shows the purchase history of the year for this customer who has a loyalty card: over 12 months, he bought 325 bottles at the lowest price. During their search of the home of the person concerned, the gendarmes got their hands on 83 bottles which were not opened. The damage is established at more than 5300 euros.
1.83 euro for a good bottle
At the helm of the Bourgoin-Jallieu criminal court, the 42-year-old defendant explained his particularly simple technique: print barcodes and then substitute them, once in the store, for those appearing on the coveted bottles. He thus paid for his good bottles at the price of the cheapest ones, 1.83 euros. “I had seen that somewhere. I started for the first time, then I let myself be taken into the gears, ”explained this father with a blank record. In addition to a fine of 400 euros, he received a three-month simple suspended sentence.
