Notre-Dame de Paris: a “prayer for peace” organized on the square on Friday, three years after the fire

It is a doubly symbolic date. This Friday, April 15, a holy day for Catholics, will also mark the 3rd anniversary of the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris. On this occasion, a “prayer for peace” will be organized on the square from 12:30 p.m.

It will still be necessary to wait for a mass to be celebrated inside Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. In full renovation, and while the interior redevelopment site is still far from finished, only a “meditation at the foot of the cross with Charles de Foucauld” will be organized this Good Friday, a few days before Easter.

Reflection and prayer

This time of meditation, 3 years to the day after the fire which partially destroyed the majestic building on the Ile de la Cité, will first take place “behind closed doors” in the presence of Bishop Georges Pontier, apostolic administrator of the diocese. of Paris and Mgr Patrick Chauvet, rector-archpriest of the cathedral.

A “time of prayer for peace” open to all will then be celebrated on the forecourt of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. There, in the presence of Mgr Georges Pontier and Mgr Patrick Chauvet, meditations by Blessed Charles de Foucauld will notably be taken up by the singers of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris.

A celebration for Easter Sunday

Finally, note that a celebration – “Announcement of the Resurrection” – is also planned for this Easter Sunday, at 1 p.m., on the forecourt of the cathedral. Chaired by Mgr Thibault Verny, vicar general of the diocese of Paris, this ceremony will be open to all.

Already last year, the Archbishop of Paris Mgr Michel Aupetit had carried out the rite of the washing of the feet in the heart of the cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris in works, on the occasion of Maundy Thursday. Texts had been read by two readers of the Comédie Française, Sylvia Bergé and Bruno Raffaelli, accompanied by a pianist, a violinist and an opera singer.
