Family A.’s house is in a wealthy neighborhood near Athens. The young parents and their baby should actually feel safe here. Instead, the sheer horror took place last Tuesday behind the walls of the property.
A group of masked burglars entered the house late at night. First they hanged the family dog Bruno on his leash, tied up and gagged his father Charalambos A. * (32). Then they tortured and killed his wife Caroline A. * († 20) – in front of their baby (11 months).
Had she seen her killer’s face?
In the meantime, the Greek police have identified the first suspects of the atrocity. On the one hand, based on DNA traces at the crime scene: These partly matched profiles of gang members in the area. On the other hand, they compiled a list of suspects linked to similar burglaries over the past six months.
A police spokesman told the Greek television broadcaster MegaTV: “We believe that the killer was forced to murder Caroline because she saw his face and could have identified him to the police.” On the other hand, they spared the husband because they thought he was unconscious and could not see them. But this is now an important witness. Because Charalambos A. could see one of the robbers.
On Sunday, the police also arrested a Georgian who was traveling with a forged passport. He is said to have tied up and robbed an elderly couple and a cleaner in their home with four accomplices in early March. The crime scene is only 20 minutes away from the house of the A. family.
“Didn’t hear my wife’s voice anymore”
The perpetrators asked his wife several times where she had hidden the money, the husband told the Greek media. They would have threatened to kill the baby if they didn’t reveal it.
A. says: “I told them where the money was hidden so that the torment would stop quickly. But they kept looking for jewelry and money. At some point they left the house. Then I couldn’t hear my wife’s voice either. “
The police assume there are four perpetrators, one is said to have stood outside Schmiere. The investigations are still ongoing. The Greek government has announced a bounty of 300,000 euros. (hah)
