Schalke desperate for red and defeat

Simon Terodde’s 150th second division goal does not save Schalke either. Karlsruhe meets late against decimated royal blue. For the Revierklub this is a major setback on the way back to the Bundesliga. In Franconia, Nuremberg’s jokers stand out in the game against Hansa Rostock.

FC Schalke 04 – Karlsruher SC 1: 2 (1: 1)

Even with his 150th goal in the 2nd Bundesliga, Simon Terodde was unable to save Schalke 04 from another setback. After two successes, the relegated lost 1: 2 (1: 1) against Karlsruher SC and missed the jump to a promotion place.

Terodde equalized the early deficit by Kyoung-Rok Choi (1st) with his eighth goal of the season in the 15th minute. The 33-year-old moved up to three goals on the second division record scorer Dieter Schatzschneider and pulled level with Karl-Heinz Mödrath (Fortuna Cologne and Alemannia Aachen) in second place. Schalke lost captain Victor Palsson after a foul from behind with a red card (73rd), Marvin Wanitzek (88th) used the KSC majority to win.

A hair-raising goalkeeper mistake by Ralf Fährmann put Schalke behind after just 50 seconds: The last strong keeper punched the ball into his own goal after Choi’s touchdown. The equalizer came out of nowhere: The attack by Darko Churlinov was actually already intercepted, but the ball landed in front of Terodde’s feet, which struck immediately.

Schalke took over command more and more, but KSC had the best chance before the break through ex-Schalke Philipp Hofmann – but this time Fährmann parried perfectly (38th).

Shortly after the break, Schalke cheered about the supposed lead. But Marcin Kaminski was offside with his header hit (50th) – as the video evidence revealed. The Royal Blues clearly dominated the game. Again and again they looked for Terodde, but the KSC defended concentrated and remained dangerous up front.

1.FC Nuremberg – Hansa Rostock 1-0 (0-0)

1. FC Nürnberg jumped to a promotion place with their third win of the season. The team of coach Robert Klauß prevailed against promoted Hansa Rostock with 1-0 (0-0) at the start of the seventh game day. The club now has 13 points and is in second place at least until Saturday afternoon, while Rostock remains in midfield with seven points.

Substitute only three minutes earlier, Erik Schuranow scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute after a first-class attack on the right side.

Nuremberg, who had to do without their red-banned striker Manuel Schäffler, found their way into the game better and had their first good chance after five minutes through Valentini Borkowski. As a result, both teams largely neutralized each other until Rostock had two good opportunities within a few minutes through Bentley Baxter Bahn (29th) and John Verhoek (33rd) to take the lead.

After the break, the guests took control, but Rostock’s Streli Mamba failed freely in front of Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia (53.). Just six minutes later, the Nuremberg team punished the guests’ lack of efficiency and took the lead. Rostock still had the chance to equalize through Nik Omladic (74th).
