Doctors say the school is "not ready" for the start of the school year. In a forum, they ask the National Education to toughen health measures.
In a column published by The Parisian, doctors claim that "https://www.aufeminin.com/"a few days before the start of the school year, the school is not ready ". They suggest strengthening the health protocol against Covid-19 by proposing four measures, starting with wearing a mask from elementary school. "Children under the age of 11 are as contaminating as adolescents or adults, as German virologists or the American Academy of Pediatrics have recalled, which, for its part, encourages the wearing of a mask from the age of 2", they explain, recalling that the mask is compulsory from 6 years old at school in several European countries such as Spain, Greece and Italy.
According to these doctors, the same ventilation measures should also be applied as in professional enclosed spaces, with air quality detectors, because they believe that "ventilation of a room every three hours is insufficient". The authors of the forum wish that "what to do when a child or an adult tests positive or has been in contact with a positive case" is specified.
Finally, the signatories ask "to set up dedicated procedures as quickly as possible in areas of high viral circulation", for example by reducing the number of pupils on site, by limiting contact between the different classes and by staggering recess and canteen hours. They give the exemple "from Italy and Portugal which plan to alternate presence in class and distance education and have organized classes for small groups of pupils by requisitioning premises and recruiting teachers", or "from Denmark which limited the number of pupils to 12 per class".
