Off to the workshop! – Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport: tires have cracks!

It’s good that the tires of the Bugatti Chiron, whose 417 km/h drive on a German autobahn we just showed, held up. The special model of the Chiron, the Pur Sport, on the other hand, apparently tends to have cracks in the rear tires and therefore has to go to the workshop.

We couldn’t have shown driving at 400+ km/h because the top speed of this model is limited to 350 km/h. On the other hand, the bolide, which is limited to 60 units worldwide, should be able to move faster on racetracks. But even at lower speeds, it’s not a good feeling when you know that a tire can burst. What hasn’t happened yet. But during quality checks, Bugatti found cracks in the Michelin tires specially developed for the car. Now at least part of the row has to go to the workshop to change tires. But not necessarily immediately, because they should still last 3000 kilometers. Just not the actually estimated service life of 4000 kilometers. How good that Bugattis are not usually used as everyday vehicles and eat up kilometers, because if you have more than 3000 kilometers on the tires, you have to leave the hyper sports car until the tires are produced. After all, the manufacturer supposedly exchanges the rubbers for free. Otherwise, a set of tires comes to around 40,000 euros. This is the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. The variant, which costs around 3.6 million euros (plus NoVA), is characterized, among other things, by lightweight construction measures (it still weighs 1980 kg) and a special aero design that for appropriate performance, especially when cornering. Like other Chiron versions, the Pur Sport is powered by an 8.0-liter W16 engine with 1500 hp and 1600 Newton meters. Due to the optimized aerodynamics, however, the VW subsidiary has limited the top speed from 420 to 350 km/h. In addition, the ratio of the narrower seven-speed DSG has been shortened, which ensures better torque. The Pur Sport is able to take almost two seconds off the standard Chiron in the intermediate sprint from 60 to 120. The Pur Sport can be recognized, among other things, by larger air intakes in the front, more visible carbon in the outer skin and a larger rear diffuser with oval tailpipes of the titanium exhaust system. A fixed wing is also noticeable at the rear, which increases the contact pressure. A newly tuned chassis with harder springs and carbon stabilizers for less rolling movements are also beneficial for performance. In the new Sport+ mode, the traction control also reacts more tolerantly to a loss of traction.
