Olivia Colman (46, "Broadchurch") has played Queen Elizabeth II (94) in the Netflix production "The Crown" since season three. In an interview with "The Mirror", the actress explains that the role is a big challenge for a reason. "There's a lot more pressure when you're playing someone who's still alive and you're scared that the person will look at it and not like it," says Colman. Especially with "The Crown" she has respect for the reaction of the British monarch.
"I was like, 'Oh my god, what if Queen Elizabeth II sees the show and sees me? Maybe she's going to think my interpretation is completely wrong. She's going to change channels," jokes the actress. The audience also has an exact idea of the person being played and can quickly make a judgment, explains Colman. She has never joined a series that had previously enjoyed great success, but she was a huge fan and did not hesitate long to take on the role.
When will "The Crown" continue?
So far, three seasons of the series have been released. In the first two, Claire Foy (36) can be seen as Queen Elizabeth II. Her successor was Olivia Colman in the third and fourth, already wacky season, which is expected to follow at the end of 2020. Recently, Netflix announced that it was planning a final, sixth season of "The Crown". "News from the Palace: We can confirm that there will be a sixth (and final) of 'The Crown' in addition to the five originally announced seasons", tweeted the streaming service. Imelda Staunton (64) will play the Queen from season five.
