Olivier Ménard, presenter of the L’Équipe channel, confused with Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès

On the occasion of the 3,000th issue of his show “L’Equipe du Soir”, host Olivier Ménard, this Monday, February 21, told of a recent misadventure that happened to him. A funny anecdote involving the infamous fugitive Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.

The story takes place in a bar in Rennes, where the presenter took a few selfies with customers who recognized him when a man approached him.

“At the end of the evening, I see a guy in the distance and I say to myself ‘well, you’re not going to cut it with your little selfie’. He approaches, he looks down and I see that he has a police armband. He tells me it’s an identity check,” he explains.

As he presents him with his journalist’s card, Olivier Ménard asks the police officer the reason for this check. “The policeman then said to me: ‘I’m going to tell you a secret, there is someone outside the bar who told us that Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès was there and we thought it was you'”, he continues to tell.

“I would have been appointed commissioner”

“You don’t look happy”, Olivier Ménard then allows himself to address the representative of the order who discovers that it was a mistake, and the latter answers him: “Bah no because if it had been him, I would have been appointed commissioner”.

The anecdote caused general hilarity on the set of “L’Equipe du Soir”, although the Dupont de Ligonnès affair usually lends itself to anything but a smile.

Suspected of the murder of his wife, his four children and his two dogs, the man has remained untraceable since 2011.
