Olympia Dukakis has died. The actress, who was known among other things for the film “Moonstruck”, was 89 years old.

Hollywood star Olympia Dukakis has died at the age of 89. She died at her home in New York City on Saturday, according to US media reports. Her brother Apollo Dukakis wrote on Facebook that she had finally found peace after many months in which she was feeling bad. The actress was married to actor Louis Zorich from 1962 until his death in 2018. The marriage had three children.

Olympia Dukakis, who first made a career in theater, was awarded the Oscar for “Best Supporting Actress” in 1988 for her role as Rose Castorini in the romantic comedy “Moonstruck”. In addition, she was among other things in the series “Look who’s talking!” as well as in films like “Magnolien aus Stahl” or “Die nackte Kanone 33 1/3”.

Cher mourns co-star

In addition to numerous film and theater stars, Cher (74), who won the Oscar for “Best Actress” for “Moonstruck”, also remembered on Twitter to her co-star. Olympia Dukakis was “an outstanding actress,” said Cher. When filming “Moonstruck” they “laughed all the time”. “She told me how much she loved Louis, her handsome, talented husband. I spoke to her three weeks ago. Rip, my love.”
