On the Gerlitzen – four kilometers of single mountain bike trails are being built

The groundbreaking ceremony for a new mountain bike project has taken place. A single trail with the starting point at Kanzelhöhe at 1470 meters above sea level to the valley station of the Kanzelbahn is being built. The total length is four kilometers. The course will be difficult, even enduro races will be possible on it.

The new single trail is being built by the Carinthian company Trailbauers. Managing Director Thomas Sqibb has hired specialists from England who have already worked on well-known downhill routes around the world. The focus is on sustainability in the rather steep terrain. Most of the building is done by hand, so that the interference with nature is kept as small as possible.

Different routes
A clear separation between hikers and mountain bikers is made with the single trail. Mountain path number 34 is being renovated and partially relocated. The offer for professional bikers and mountain runners will be increased. If the 34 is too demanding for you, there is an easier way to get to the pulpit.

Everyone goes along
Those responsible for the project are proud that all landowners have pulled together. “For the first time there is an offer for bikers and hikers on the south side of the Gerlitzen”, emphasizes project manager Andreas Holzer.

Ready from summer 2022
The construction costs are 400,000 euros. “With this new course, the previous mountain bike projects are perfectly complemented”, says tourism director Georg Overs happily. “For the first time, world-class enduro races can also be completed on the track. Professionals and racing drivers are the target audience of the offer. ”The mountain bike route will be available from summer 2022.
