One of the best thrillers of the 2010s is getting a sequel

In 2017, Taylor Sheridan directed an excellent thriller worn by Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen: Wind River. 5 years later, we learn that a sequel is in development!

Released on August 30, 2017 in France, Wind River introduces us to Cory Lambert, played by Jeremy Renner. The latter is a tracker in the Indian reservation of Wind River, lost in the wild immensity of Wyoming.

When it discovers the body of a woman in the middle of nature, the FBI sends a young recruit, Jane (Elizabeth Olsen), to elucidate this murder. Strongly linked to the Amerindian community, he will help lead the investigation in this hostile environment, ravaged by violence and isolation, where the law of men fades in the face of the ruthless nature.

Directed by Taylor Sheridan (creator of Yellowstone), Wind River gathered nearly 300,000 spectators in France. Internationally, the feature film was unfortunately a commercial failure. Leaded by the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the film collected only 44 million dollars for a budget of 11 million.

Indeed, this work was promised a great success in its country of origin, the USA. Due to the outbreak of the Weinstein affair in 2017, Wind River was sacrificed and deprived of theatrical release, like many other feature films produced by The Weinstein Company.

The film only received a confidential streaming release in the USA, depriving this chilling thriller of enormous revenue potential in the land of Uncle Sam. Despite this debacle, Variety tells us that a sequel has been put on. under construction.

Called Wind River: The Next Chapter, this second episode will be directed by Kari Skogland, director on series like Falcon and the Winter Soldier or The Handmaid’s Tale. Note that it will be written in writing by Patrick Massett and John Zinman. The story of this 2nd film will be as follows:

“Terror has escalated on the Native American reservation, as a series of ritual murders remain unsolved. So the FBI asks for help from the tracker Hanson, who finds himself embroiled in a desperate and dangerous fight between the authorities , a vigilante and the reserve that is like his home.”

Filming should begin in the course of 2023. We do not yet know the cast of this second part. Will Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen return? Still a little patience before having the heart net!
