Galaxy S22 owners, rejoice! Samsung just announced that One UI 6.1 and Galaxy AI would finally roll out to the entire S22 lineup and more.
Last March, Samsung announced that it would bring its One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy S23, Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5 and Tab S9. On the other hand, previous generations remained in the closet.
We then noted the glaring absence of the Galaxy S22 which nevertheless shares the same SoC as the Galaxy S23 FE, which benefits from One UI 6.1 and its artificial intelligence functions. It was incomprehensible. TM Roh, head of Samsung’s smartphone division, then clarified during a shareholder meeting that they were studying the feasibility of this port.
One UI 6.1 finally arrives on the S22
Finally, in a press release published today on its site, Samsung officially announces that the Galaxy S22s will finally be able to benefit from One UI 6.1 and therefore Galaxy AI. This good news does not come alone since it is in reality the entire high-end Samsung of 2022 which is affected by this important update. Here is the full list:
The update of these devices to One UI 6.1 will be effective in May, specifies Samsung.
Galaxy AI functions to be found on the 2022 Galaxy
As a reminder, One UI 6.1 brings all the Galaxy AI features highlighted by the Galaxy S24. Generative artificial intelligence is a major building block for Samsung in 2024. In this dedicated file, we have also tested the multiple AI functions offered by the Korean firm, both in photos and videos or even in conversations.
Soon-to-be-updated 2022 Samsung devices will have access to a set of features set out by Samsung:
- Circle to Searchwhich launches a search from a circled area on the screen.
- Live Translatewhich translates in real time into 13 languages.
- Note Assistwhich helps to transcribe handwritten notes and summarize them.
- Photo Assistwhich enhances photos automatically.
- Chat Assistwhich seamlessly translates incoming and outgoing chats in real time.
- Interpretwhich offers instant translation of face-to-face conversations.
- Transcript Assistwho writes, translates and summarizes conversations.
- Browsing Assistwhich offers navigation with a summary option and a translation option.
- Generative Editwhich edits photos with AI
- Edit Suggestion, which offers an instant editing experience based on editing suggestions resulting from the analysis of viewed content
- AI-Generated Wallpaperwhich generates wallpapers based on keywords.
AI functions planned for the Galaxy S21?
Samsung wouldn’t stop there. Before being made official, the S22 update appeared on a Korean Samsung forum. A representative of the brand mentioned this news as well as the upcoming update on the S21s. High-end 2021 Galaxy models could soon have access to AI functions, but the selection would be more limited. We are talking about Circle to search and some Magic Editing.
And it would not be surprising if one more generation was invested with functions from Galaxy AI as Samsung has made a point of hammering the market with its solution. TM Roh, head of Samsung’s smartphone division, specified that Samsung wanted “dominate the market” of AI. It’s in progress.
