One year of testing with the Baseus Blade HD: this battery life still works very well

I receive so many new products to test that I sometimes like to take stock of this or that product that I have been using regularly for some time to see if it holds up. After all, new things are cool. But if you’re spending your hard-earned money, that’s okay, you want the product to last.

The main takeaways from the Baseus Blade HD battery

  • The Baseus Blade HD portable power bank is sold at a price of €110.
  • Slim but powerful, it fits perfectly in a laptop bag and has a clear, easy-to-read screen.
  • As it is large, it takes up a lot of space on the desk.

The other day a reader asked me if I was still using the Baseus Blade HD High Capacity Battery, a product I originally tested almost a year ago. This is indeed the case. In fact, I not only use the HD version of this power bank, but also the original Baseus Blade model, which is now two years old, and both work well.

What does HD mean? High density. Simply put, Baseus used a different battery technology to allow the same charging capacity to be concentrated in a smaller space.

First of all, I really like the shape of this Baseus Blade HD battery. The square, flat design, rounded corners, textured coating and soft silicone feet are perfect for slipping into a laptop bag.

If you want to make sure your laptop is protected, the Blade HD comes with a soft storage bag.

An easy-to-read screen

On the front there is an easy-to-read display that shows the battery life of the device, as well as the power input/output and the time remaining before the device is charged or discharged. I like that the display is soft, so I’m not blinded when using the device in low light or at night.

On the front, there is a power button and four ports – two USB-A and two USB-C. Simple.

The Baseus Blade HD uses lithium-polymer silicon-carbon battery technology, making it 18% lighter and 20% smaller than the previous version. The capacity remains the same at 20,000 mAh, but I don’t mind that as it provides enough power to charge the devices.

Good considering the reduction in the size of the device

In fact, I’m glad that Baseus focused on reducing the size of the device and not increasing its power.

Here’s the Blade HD (which is now a year old), next to the original Blade (which is two years old and suffered some cosmetic damage when I accidentally dripped some nasty solvent on it), and both are in great shape and like new.

USB ports can be used in single, dual, triple or quad configuration. When used alone, a USB-A port can provide up to 30W, while one of the USB-C ports can provide 100W.

Acceptable cooldown times

Charging times are also very acceptable, with 1.2 hours using the included USB-C to C cable and a 65W charger with USB-C PD (Power Delivery) socket.

One thing that hasn’t changed from the initial version is that the Blade HD’s dust-loving surface picks up and makes visible every bit of dirt it picks up. But the textured finish is nice because this power bank is not slippery, unlike many others. So it’s less likely to fall on the floor or your laptop keyboard!

Purchasing advice for the Baseus Blade HD battery

That aside, this is a fantastic high-capacity battery for laptop users, and while its shape won’t allow it to fit in your pocket, it’s perfect for slipping into your laptop bag. ‘a laptop.
