Only Parndorf satisfied – restrained rush on most of the shopping streets

Shopping on Sunday – that was possible on Sunday due to an exemption from Corona. The big rush to the shopping streets did not materialize. Only Parndorf was able to benefit from the additional shopping day – also because many customers had come from other federal states and neighboring countries.

For most of the others, the results are rather mixed. Until 2 p.m. the rush was muted, reports Alexandra Wieseneder, center manager of the eo in Oberwart. After that it got a little better. But there could be no question of a rush. “It was around 50 percent of a normal shopping Saturday before Christmas,” said Wieseneder. It remains to be seen whether it has paid off for the dealers in terms of sales. The Saturday before, on the other hand, attracted many visitors. Crowds like on the weekday A similar picture emerged during the on-site inspection at the EZE in Eisenstadt. Many parking spaces were empty on Sunday, the rush was comparable to a normal weekday. There was more going on in the pedestrian zone, with the punch huts being a particular attraction. Parndorf satisfied The Designer Outlet Parndorf was satisfied. “The center is very busy, most of the guests come from Burgenland and the surrounding area as well as from Vienna and Lower Austria, but some customers from Hungary and Slovakia also use the additional shopping day,” says General Manager Mario Schwann. The sales and frequency figures for the last shopping weekend before Christmas are “extremely satisfactory”. Minus can no longer be made up. Andrea Gottweis, chairwoman of the Burgenland retail trade, sees the Sunday shopping as positive, but ultimately it is about damage limitation after the lockdown. “What the additional shopping Sunday certainly cannot do is make up for the millions in damage caused by the lockdown to retail in Burgenland.” Many thanks go to the employees in the factories for working on the Sunday. For the remaining days until Christmas, Gottweis again appealed to buy from local businesses and not from international online providers.
