This Sunday, January 24, M6 broadcast a new issue of Forbidden Zone devoted to radical Islam. A program that has aroused many reactions as well as violent messages, in particular with Ophélie Meunier. The host of the show had to be placed under protection in the face of the gravity of the facts.
This is a situation that is taking on very worrying proportions. M6 broadcast this Sunday January 24 an unpublished number of Restricted zone in which the show was interested in theradical Islam. In this report, the teams went, in particular, with hidden camera or not, to different places such as non-contract schools or religious buildings. In Roubaix, a visit to a toy shop selling faceless dolls and an Islamic bookstore offering its customers a book promoting the defense of Islam through arms, provoked strong reactions on the side of some Muslims but also of right-wing and far-right politicians.
According to Nicolas de Tavernost, the chairman of the management board of the M6 group, this investigation also gave rise to threatening messages againstOphelie Meunier, the presenter of the show. The latter must have been placed under protection, as revealed by the boss of the channel during a Senate inquiry into media concentration.
When he was questioned about his interference with the editorial line of his channels, Nicolas de Tavernost defended himself by evoking the Forbidden Zone number in question: “To do my job, I have to judge a certain number of criteria. I’m going to give you an extremely specific example: we did a “Forbidden Zone” program which had a lot of repercussions. We discussed this show. I asked if we had the guarantees, if it was an “extremist” program, I asked if the presenter who is threatened, was protected, I asked if the witnesses who spoke were well blurred etc… I did the job that I feel I should do on a show, the decision of which ultimately came back to me”, did he declare.
A lawyer also threatened with death
Ophélie Meunier was not the only one threatened with death. the lawyer Amine Elbahi, who appears in several sequences of the show, would have also been the target of repeated attacks.”My phone number has circulated on social networks, several murder calls have been broadcast. I am threatened with beheading, with the throat cut, with attacking me because I held a speech of truth with an uncovered face and in particular on the inaction of the mayor of my commune”, he told on BFMTV. In this context, the jurist has also been placed under police surveillance.
