Le Figaro in support of Ophélie Meunier. The daily will publish a collective column on Friday addressed to the presenter of Restricted zone on M6 which was placed under police protection after the broadcast of a report devoted to radical Islamism. “The media must have as a common base, whatever their opinions and obediences, the absolute defense of freedom of expression, democratic debate and the requirement of information”, indicates in particular the platform.

The demand for a systematic criminalization of death threats

The death threats against the host of M6 as well as Amine Elbahi, one of the witnesses of the documentary, motivated the profession to express more and more its solidarity. The collective forum which will be published by Le Figaro is signed by journalists from several newsrooms. Among them, we find Dimitri Pavlenko, the host of the morning of Europe 1, but also Étienne Gernelle of Point, Eric Chol of the express, Valerie Toranian of the review of two worlds, Bernard de La Villardière or even Philippe Val, the former director of Charlie Hebdo.

Writers and intellectuals like Sorj Chalandon, Michel Onfray or Frédéric Beigbeder also signed the text which calls for a systematic penalization of death threats on social networks. The tribune also asks the candidates for the presidential election to recall, seven years after the attack on Charlie Hebdo, that the right and the duty to inform are one of the foundations of our democratic system.

The collective forum was initiated and written by journalist Karine Papillaud and by Olivier Weber, Patrick Vallélian and Emmanuel Razavi.
