Oscars 2020: Taika Waititi grabs his first gold boy

The New Zealand-born Taika Waititi (44, "Thor: Day of the Decision") won the Oscars 2020 for his Nazi satire "Jojo Rabbit" in the category "Best Adapted Screenplay". He stands out for Greta Gerwig for "Little Women", Anthony McCarten for "The Two Popes", Todd Phillips and Scott Silver for "Joker" and Steven Zaillian for "The Irishman". Quite a little surprise. Waititi, known for his humor, made a correspondingly amusing acceptance speech.

Special dedication

At first, the 44-year-old was surprised how light the Oscar statue was because it was supposed to be so heavy. Then he thanked his mother, who had given him the book on which "Jojo Rabbit" is based. He mentioned a few other names and said he wanted to thank more people, but he didn't remember any names. That's why he said, "That's it!" Which caused laughter in the hall. But he added something else.

"This is really great and I dedicate it to all indigenous children who live in the world and want to make art, dance and write stories. We are the original storytellers and we can do it here," concluded Taika Waititi.
