The Oscar Academy, through the celebrity couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, announced the list of nominated films, actors and actresses who can hope for one of the coveted prizes on April 25, 2021. With a total of ten nominations in the 23 categories, the Netflix drama "Mank" by David Fincher has the most chance of winning the award.

In addition to the biographical film, which deals with the creation of Orson Welles' masterpiece "Citizen Kane", seven other works have been nominated for "Best Film" this year: "The Father", "Minari", "Nomadland", "Sound of." Metal, "" The Trial of the Chicago 7, "" Judas and the Black Messiah "(six nominations each), and" Promising Young Woman "(five nominations). Among the nominated directors, only the Dane Thomas Vinterberg stands out with "Another Round". Everyone else – David Fincher ("Mank"), Lee Isaac Chung ("Minari"), Chloé Zhao ("Nomadland") and Emerald Fennell ("Promising Young Woman") – may also make the "Best Picture" this year.

Will Chadwick Boseman be honored posthumously?

For "Judas and the Black Messiah" the late Chadwick Boseman was posthumously nominated for "Best Actor". Riz Ahmed ("Sound of Metal"), Anthony Hopkins ("The Father"), Gary Oldman ("Mank") and "Walking Dead" star Steven Yeun ("Minari") are also hoping for a prize. The leading actresses are Viola Davis ("Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"), Andra Day ("The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Vanessa Kirby (" Pieces of a Woman "), Frances McDormand (" Nomadland ") and Carey Mulligan ("Promising Young Woman").

Meanwhile, Bulgarian newcomer Maria Bakalova will hardly be able to believe her eyes. She has been nominated for the Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress" for her role as the daughter of the title mess from "Borat Anschluss Moviefilm". Her well-known competitors are: Glenn Close ("Hillbilly Elegy"), Olivia Colman ("The Father"), Amanda Seyfried ("Mank") and Youn Yuh-jung ("Minari"). In contrast to the Golden Globes, Helena Zengel was not nominated for "News from the World" at the Oscars.

Sacha Baron Cohen can hope for two golden boys: "Borat 2" is nominated for "Best Adapted Screenplay" and Cohen for "The Trial of the Chicago 7" as "Best Supporting Actor". Just like Daniel Kaluuya ("Judas and the Black Messiah"), Leslie Odom Jr. ("One Night in Miami"), Paul Raci ("Sound of Metal") and Lakeith Stanfield ("Judas and the Black Messiah").

No German hope

A German work is not cavorting this year in the award for the "best foreign-language film". Here the race between "Another Round" from Denmark, "Better Days" from Hong Kong, "Collective" from Romania, "The Man Who Sold His Skin" from Tunisia and "Qu Vadis, Aida?" from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The German audience will find out who can look forward to one of the coveted golden boys in 2021 in the night from Sunday 25 April to Monday 26 April. This year, the Oscars will not only take place around two months late. In addition, due to the ongoing corona pandemic, the ceremony will not take place exclusively in Los Angeles, but rather spread over several locations.
