“Our fire brigade” – Rescue app: Modern technology helps with operations

Our fire brigades are available 365 days a year for all kinds of operations – around the clock. Modern technology opens up new possibilities for making work even more efficient. The spectrum ranges from alarming to fire protection. The fire brigade Schützen am Gebirge relies fully on digitization.

Lukas Thurner, a software developer by profession, is building the FireFighter Rescue App with his comrades Andreas Dovits and Martin Uhl. The origins of this well thought-out application software go back to 2018, when it was foreseeable that more and more electric cars would be on the road. These are a special challenge for the weirs, especially overheated or burning batteries need a lot of water for cooling or for extinguishing.

Collected information on e-cars
This is how the Florianis organized the data sheets of all models, which now fill thick folders. Then the idea came up to convert the whole system to an app. The information and rescue data sheets are already available. “In the medium term, it should even be possible to query the license plate,” Thurner said. That means, you enter the license plate number and the app shows the exact model and the rescue data sheets.

But the app can do even more. “It is connected to various measuring stations, such as the Wulka, and provides information about the water level, flow speed and wind direction,” explain Dovits and Uhl.

QR codes on helmets
If a pollutant is released, the Florianis receive the information via the app and can even calculate how quickly the pollutants are distributed. “This means that an oil barrier can be set up in the right place in a very targeted manner,” the experienced Florianis know.

The app is just as helpful when people wear respiratory protection equipment. The helmets are provided with QR codes that can be scanned using a tablet. “This means that you can see immediately how long a person wearing a respirator has been in use, when he needs a break and more,” it says.

In the future, the practical app will also communicate with “smart houses”.
