A flattering penalty whistle saves Nuremberg

SC Paderborn is correcting its weak start to the second division season even without Max Kruse. Despite being behind, they managed to win against Wehen Wiesbaden. Things are getting hot in the Frankenderby between Nuremberg and Fürth. The goals all came in the first half.

1. FC Nuremberg – SpVgg Greuther Fürth 1:1 (1:1)

1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth separated without a winner in the 271st Frankenderby and are therefore still falling short of expectations in the 2nd Bundesliga. At the start of the sixth matchday, the traditional duel ended 1:1 (1:1), meaning that the two rivals each missed the hoped-for step forward. Damian Michalski (8th) scored early for Fürth, who had previously won five of the six most recent games in Nuremberg. The equalizer in injury time of the first half by Can Uzun (45th + 1) followed video evidence and a flattering penalty whistle. The 17-year-old equalized from the spot.

“We didn’t play a derby in the first half, Fürth were intense. I would have liked to win the game for the people because I know what a derby means. But in the end it’s okay,” said Nuremberg coach Cristian Fiel Sky. Fürth’s coach Alexander Zorniger, who classified the penalty as a wrong decision, said: “It was a highly emotional derby with a fair result. But of course we want to be in other league regions.”

With eight points, Nuremberg moved up to ninth place for the time being, Fürth (5) is currently 13th in the table with just one win. It was the 50th draw between the two teams, Nuremberg is clearly ahead of Fürth (79) with 140 wins – two games were canceled. In front of 47,000 spectators in the sold-out Max Morlock Stadium, both teams wanted to take revenge for their poor performances before the international break: FCN lost 3-1 in Kaiserslautern and Fürth lost to Hannover with the same result.

However, the visitors started bolder and were rewarded early on by Michalski, who headed home from Julian Green’s corner. After that, the home team got stronger, but didn’t play well enough. During Nuremberg’s equalizer, the video referee had to help make the decision after Fürth’s Orestis Kiomourtzoglou brought down club captain Florian Hübner. Only after studying the TV pictures was Uzun allowed to convert from the point. In the long injury time, Nuremberg should have taken the lead, but Fürth goalkeeper Andreas Linde made an outstanding save from Taylan Duman (45th + 4).

In the second half, both teams exchanged blows with an intensity worthy of a derby. But the compelling chances didn’t materialize. Nuremberg’s captain Florian Hübner missed the best with his head (76th).

SC Paderborn – SV Wehen Wiesbaden 2:1 (0:1)

SC Paderborn took an important step out of the crisis with the 2-1 (0-1) win against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team managed their first win in a month without former national player Max Kruse, despite a 0-1 deficit.

Kianz Froese gave the newcomers the lead after a quick counterattack (23rd), but the Wiesbaden team was only able to celebrate late because the goal was initially disallowed due to an alleged offside position. However, the Cologne cellar reversed the decision.

Shortly after the break, Ivan Prtajin, completely free in front of the goal, missed the chance to make it 2-0 for the guests, just seconds later Sebastian Klaas (51st) equalized for Paderborn. Niclas Nadj (60th) turned the game in favor of the hosts. After falling behind, the Hessians pushed for the equalizer again, but in the end they were not rewarded for their courageous performance.

Paderborn managed to catch up with the lower midfield with seven points from six games. Wehen Wiesbaden still has eight points and fell back into midfield for the time being. The guests, who started strongly, missed the jump into the top group.
