KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) – Islamist fighters stormed a police station in Pakistan’s economic capital Karachi on Friday, killing two people before being shot, authorities said.

The three assailants were shot dead by security forces, a government spokesman said, adding that two people were killed and 11 others injured in the attack.

The Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack in a press release.

The TTP has recently stepped up attacks on security forces in northwestern Pakistan.
