Then I saw a yellow bus coming from the left. He drove straight towards us, but didn’t slow down and ultimately rammed us, ”says Gschnaller, describing the scene. The driver – an Austrian whose age the police do not disclose – then “gesticulated wildly” on the bus. Lechner got out immediately and looked after the 24 students on the bus. In the meantime, Gschnaller sent a radio message to the control center. Shortly afterwards the attack with the jackknife took place. As the alleged attacker, who should now be admitted to an institution, later stated that he had “a problem with blue light organizations.” “Spit and stabbed in the direction of the upper body.” “He spat at me through the window and wanted to stab me in the upper body. I backed away and hit his hand, ”continues the paramedic. This defense caused the injury to the hand. Then Gschnaller locked the windows and doors. According to Lechner, “the pupils, who were elementary school children and high school students, fortunately experienced the situation very relaxed and composed”. The ambulance took her to safety at a bus stop nearby, fearing that the bus driver might start a rampage. “The older students took care of the young ones.” “Fortunately, that was just a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Looking back, Gschnaller and Lechner are happy that things turned out relatively lightly and that the driver who had fled was caught quickly. In conclusion, both emphasize that “such an attack against a vehicle with flashing lights is, thank God, an isolated case”. In actually all other rescue situations “people have a lot of understanding and, if possible, move quickly and make room”.
