Paris Hilton turns 40. On her way from it girl to entrepreneur, she had to overcome a number of hurdles – including a stay in prison.

Paris Hilton (40) has been an It Girl from the very beginning. Hardly any other personality has coined the term as strongly as the great-granddaughter of the hotel director Conrad Hilton (1887-1979). At the turn of the millennium, the privileged blonde's job was to look pretty, attend events and have fun with like-minded people. Hilton is still a public figure today. However, behind their dazzling existence there is now a lot of work.

Hilton, who celebrates her 40th birthday on February 17th, has more than just her it-girl past in her résumé. She has already worked as a model, actress, singer, designer and DJ, is a self-employed entrepreneur and is responsible for her own podcast. Gone are the days when she made a splash with celebrity friends in Hollywood nightlife.

But there are still headlines about her as a person. Most recently when she testified in court in early February 2021 against the boarding school she attended for a year in the 1990s. The hotel heiress brought serious allegations of physical and psychological abuse against the employees.

She would have gladly given up this fame

Paris Hilton's wild days go back to the 2000s. During this time she shot the TV format "The Simple Life" with Nicole Richie (39) and got her first big role in the horror flick "House of Wax". While the blonde was really successful with the docu-soap, the 2005 film brought her the Golden Raspberry. Over the years, Hilton has received the award, which is unpopular among actors, five times.

The sad thing is that a film made by today's 40-year-olds managed to arouse the interest of the audience. In 2004, her then partner Rick Salomon (53) published a sex video of the two without Hilton knowing about it. The film, entitled "1 Night in Paris", was named the best-selling pornographic film of 2005.

Life behind bars is not alien to her

The next headline followed in 2007. Hilton was stripped of his license for drunk driving. When the police stopped the hotel heiress one evening because she was driving without a light, they found a probation violation. The consequence: In June 2007, Hilton began her sentence, but was able to leave the prison after three days. For medical reasons, argued her lawyer and psychiatrist at the time. Still, Hilton had rejoiced too soon. Just one day after she was released, the court ruled that she was not allowed. The It girl was immediately sent back to prison, where she served another 17 days.

In 2010, the blonde came into conflict with the law again. Police came across cocaine during a vehicle inspection and Hilton was arrested for drug possession. She didn't have to go back to prison. The verdict: 200 hours of community service, a $ 2,000 fine, and a year probation.

Long time no luck in the marriage market

Rick Salomon, the sex film producer, is one of Paris Hilton's many exes. In the past two decades, the hotel heiress has often appeared at her side with new partners. It got serious twice. In 2005, Hilton got engaged to the Greek multibillionaire grandson Paris Latsis (38), but only a few months later she broke the engagement. Something similar happened around 13 years later. In 2017 she planned to give actor Chris Zylka (35, "The Leftovers") the word of consent, but this plan also ended with the separation.

Since December 2019, the new man in Hilton's life is called Carter Reum (40). The hotel heiress wishes for a future together with the American entrepreneur – including a wedding and children. She recently said in a podcast conversation: "I'm just looking forward to taking the next step in my life and finally having a real life." After all, she had to wait long enough.
