In an interview given to the newspaper The Parisian, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, draws up the roadmap of the former Secretary of State and man of intelligence, appointed Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, Laurent Nuñez. He replaces the prefect Didier Lallement and will be installed at the Paris police headquarters this Thursday. In his roadmap, Gérald Darmanin notably announces the creation of 500 new police positions for Paris over the next two years.

He promises up to a thousand more police officers in the next five years in the capital and its inner suburbs. 500 new cameras should also be installed on public roads, in addition to the existing ones which will be modernized.

Fight against crime

Gérald Darmanin wants to step up the fight against crime in Paris, starting with the problem of crack. Barely installed, the new prefect of police, Laurent Nuñez, is already commissioned to propose solutions next September.

Another priority is the fight against crime in transport and drug trafficking. The Minister of the Interior wants to put the Parisian police in working order, to improve the image of the capital for the Rugby World Cup next year and the Olympic Games in two years.

Incidentally, by thus fixing in the press the roadmap of the new prefect of police, Gérald Darmanin intends to assert his authority over a powerful institution which has, in the past, been more accountable to the Élysée than to its own ministry. of guardianship.
