In 1981, Robert Badinter, Minister of Justice, succeeded in the fight of his life: putting an end to the death penalty practiced in France. An emblematic act that Georges Fenech, magistrate and former LR deputy, welcomed this Friday in the show Pascal Praud and you. While paying tribute to the man who was also president of the Constitutional Council, Georges Fenech questioned some of his actions at the ministry located at Place Vendôme in Paris.
“Upon his arrival in 1981, he had erased with a stroke of the pen, without parliamentary debate, the freedom and security law, and initiated a penal policy which caused a lot of damage”, estimates the magistrate on Europe 1, also pointing the finger the repeal of the State Security Court, “which was a good thing, but which was not replaced. So, terrorism cases came to common law jurisdictions.”
