The tabloid magazine “People Today” ends today. The broadcaster ZDF has revealed in advance what viewers can expect.

This Friday (September 29th) an era ends: After 26 years, the last issue of the tabloid magazine “People Today” will be broadcast from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m ZDF on the screens. From 1997, Nina Ruge (67) reported as the main presenter, followed by Karen Webb (52) from 2007. At the end of January it was announced that the program would be discontinued, and in May the date for the last program was made public.

This end is not easy for the broadcaster and those responsible for the broadcast either. When asked by spot on news, Anne Gellinek, head of the main news department, said: “With ‘People Today’, ZDF is parting ways with a successful format that has grown close to our hearts.” She further explains: “We are giving up the show in order to be able to explore new avenues with the editorial team. The People reporting will continue to be available on ZDF – in the extended ‘Hello Germany’ show and online [auf der “Panorama”-Seite, Red.]in the ZDF media library and on other new distribution channels.”

Specifically, this means: “Hello Germany” will be shown starting next week (from October 2nd) Monday to Friday from 5:10 p.m. to 6 p.m. “In this extended broadcast time, ‘People Today’ fans will also find up-to-date information about the lives and work of celebrities,” promises the broadcaster.

What can “People Today” fans expect in the last issue?

And what can viewers expect in the last edition of “People Today”? It will be a “familiar” show with “current celebrity topics of the day, with German and international stars, also with a wink”. A big topic of the farewell broadcast will be the awarding of the “German Television Prize” on Thursday evening. In addition to highlights, emotions and the best outfits from the red carpet, the station also promises celebrity statements for the “People Today” farewell.

But of course, as a farewell, “a little journey through time through the more than 26 years of ‘People Today'” is also planned, after all, the show was present at countless celebrity events: “In addition to the Oscars, dream weddings, coronations and tragic farewells, there are also surprising scenes to smile: with Heidi Klum (50) through New York, Boris Becker (55) talks to his sheep in Mallorca and the young and then unknown Kim Kardashian (42) accompanies her friend Paris Hilton (42) in amazement to the Munich Oktoberfest.”

A special highlight on the program is Mick Jagger (80) and the Rolling Stones: “In an exclusive ZDF interview, they talk about their new music and, as regular guests on the format, say: Bye-bye ‘people today’.”
