The fact that perfume is rarely vegan does not occur to many. In fact, animal ingredients are hidden in fragrances from time to time. In addition, perfume is often not free from animal testing. In which fragrance water can you invest with a clear conscience?

January is a popular time for making resolutions. Among other things, many decide to change their diet to vegan as part of the Veganuary. Anyone who not only wants to make their diet vegan, but their entire lifestyle without exception, will quickly notice that animal ingredients are not only found in food or clothing, but also in cosmetic products. This includes perfumes.

Just recently, singer Billie Eilish (19), who was named “Person of the Year” by the animal welfare organization PETA, launched a vegan perfume. Which other perfumes are vegan?

If a perfume is vegan, then it is not automatically cruelty-free

Animal testing for cosmetic products has been banned in all EU countries since 2013. However, vegan perfumes are not automatically free of animal testing. They often contain ingredients that are not exclusively used in the cosmetics sector and are therefore tested on animals. To find out which perfume is strictly vegan, it’s worth checking out closer look at the ingredients. Another clue is the Fact whether the product is sold in China. Here the law stipulates that cosmetic products must be tested on animals.

Admittedly, it is very exhausting to examine perfume for ingredients. Luckily, PETA has one list created to show which manufacturers test their products on animals and which do not. In addition, we present five wonderfully fragrant, strictly vegan perfumes.

1. Rituals: The Ritual of Sakura Rêve de Hanami

All of Rituals’ products are not tested on animals – not even by third parties. The manufacturer provides detailed information on this on its website. Although not all products are vegan, Rituals also lists all products in the range that contain animal ingredients.

The perfume “The Ritual of Sakura Reve de Hanami is strictly vegan. The top note consists of petals, pear and bergamot, while the heart notes come with amber and wood. The base notes are vanilla and patchouli.

2. Walden Perfumes: Castles in the Air

All Walden perfumes are handmade, vegan and cruelty-free. Unlike many other fragrances, Walden perfumes are oil-based roll-on fragrances. So the perfume is very easy to dose. Simply apply to the inner wrists, base of the neck and inner elbows – et voilà, the fragrance experience is complete.

“Garden of Zen” by Jean & Len takes you to Asia with its citrusy-floral scent. The aromatic freshness of this women’s perfume sharpens your senses to rediscover the small, fine things of everyday life and to leave heavy ballast behind. The manufacturer does not use animal ingredients and, according to its own statements, does not carry out any animal testing. In addition, the products are not sold in China.

5. PonyHütchen: Solid perfume flower magic
