The Peugeot 208 won the title of best-selling car in France in 2021, a few hundred units from the Renault Clio. Available with a 100% electric engine, this version represents 20% of 208 sales in France last year. Peugeot is offering this model from €149/month at the moment, the opportunity to decipher this offer which looks rather attractive.
162,000 electric cars were sold in France in 2021, which represents an increase of 45.6% compared to the previous year. Last December, electric even reached 15% market share, thus rapidly approaching diesel, whose market share was around 17% over the same period.

20% of new Peugeot 208s sold in France in 2021 were e-208s, i.e. 17,858 registrations for the French electric city car. It occupies the third place of the best-selling electric cars in France in 2021 behind the Renault Zoé (23,573) and the Tesla Model 3 (24,911).

The Peugeot e-208 which is displayed in the photo is a “GT” version, i.e. the highest level of finish for the e-208 which is not displayed at the same price. But then, what do we have for 149 €/month? We have an e-208 with the “Active” finish, that is to say the second level of finish of the six offered in the 208 range, and the first level of the five offered on the e-208.
In other words, this is the entry-level model. Like all the other Peugeot e-208s, the engine and the battery do not change, the brand offering only one electric variant in its catalog.
Thus, this model benefits from an electric motor of 136 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. The battery, with a capacity of 50 kWh, can cover 340 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The “Active” finish makes it possible to benefit, as standard, from LED lights, cruise control, air conditioning, a 7-inch touch screen or even a single-phase 7.4 kW on-board charger.
The basic color is quite nice, moreover, once is not custom, because it is a “Yellow Faro” model. On the other hand, if you want to add one or two options (including colors), you immediately exit the offer and the monthly payments go up.
What are the conditions to be eligible for the Peugeot e-208 LLD offer?
This is a long-term rental offer over 36 months and 30,000 kilometers maximum. As the announcement explicitly mentions, a contribution of 3240 euros is mandatory to take advantage of the 149 €/month. This contribution already includes the deduction of the maximum ecological bonus of 6,000 euros eligible until June 30, 2022.
This offer is subject to the conversion premium of 2,500 euros conditioning the scrapping of a diesel vehicle registered before 01/01/2011 or a petrol vehicle registered before 01/01/2006. With your LLD, Peugeot obviously includes vehicle maintenance and warranty, and even assistance, which is not necessarily always the case.
How much will the Peugeot e-208 LLD offer cost you?
Over three years of rental, with contribution, your Peugeot e-208 will cost you 8604 euros with maintenance, warranty and assistance. Peugeot displays its e-208 from 24,590 euros on its site, ecological bonus of 6000 euros deducted and conversion bonus of 2500 euros also deducted. To this, Peugeot adds a recovery bonus of 4000 euros, but it is actually the conversion bonus + a commercial discount of 1500 euros.
Starting from this price, you will therefore pay, over three years, 34.9% of the price of your car. It is globally the depreciation of a new car after approximately three years of use. As the offer is not an LOA, there is no option to buy back the vehicle. It must be returned at the end of the rental.
Beware of the cost of repairs, which are always expensive at the time of return. We advise you to do it before at a bodybuilder, it will cost you less than at a dealership. If you take a vehicle back from Peugeot after your LLD, the dealer will also be a little less careful about the costs of repairs.
What are the advantages of the Peugeot e-208 LLD offer?
The advantage is to benefit from a 100% electric car at rather acceptable monthly payments with a relatively contained contribution thanks to government aid. Without the aid and the discount of 1,500 euros, the first rent would be 11,740 euros.
The Peugeot e-208 is overall a good small electric car, with considerable driving pleasure and a fairly decent autonomy for urban and suburban use, but without extras, in particular due to a still sparse charging network.
What are the disadvantages of the Peugeot e-208 LLD offer?
There are a few disadvantages to this offer, starting with the conversion bonus which already excludes a lot of people. Then there is the offer, since it is framed on a rather convincing car under the hood, but in terms of equipment, it is far from being a panacea. No alloy rims but sheet metal rims with hubcaps, no parking radars, no digital instrumentation system and no on-board GPS.
As stated above, and this applies to all vehicles rented in LOA or LLD, the return costs can be high. The prescribed mileage in three years is quite low. 30,000 kilometers over the rental period, this gives 10,000 kilometers per year, or approximately 830 kilometers per month and approximately 27 kilometers per day. This will be suitable for the majority of customers who will use the car to get to work, but it does not leave much room for extras.
For long journeys, the charging network is unfortunately not dense enough to travel peacefully (without taking into account, on top of that, the reliability of certain terminals), while the Peugeot e-208 has a good appetite for electrons on highway.
