Pharmacies issue digital vaccination certificate: online portal collapsed

From today, people who have been completely vaccinated against Corona can pick up their personal vaccination certificate in pharmacies and store it in the German vaccination pass app CovPass or the Corona warning app. The online search for pharmacies that issue the digital vaccination certificate is sometimes not available due to overload.

Since today, Monday (June 14th) it is possible to have the digital proof of a complete vaccination issued in many pharmacies retrospectively.

On the Online portal mein-apothekenmanager.de you can find out where a pharmacy is nearby that already offers this service. The website has had to struggle with failures since it started on Monday morning.

This is due to the large number of visitors to the online portal, said a spokesman for the Federal Association of German Pharmacists’ Associations (ABDA) of the German press agency. But it will level off in the short term. Basically the system started successfully. “Several thousand certificates were issued in the first hours of the morning,” said the spokesman.

According to ABDA, more than 13,000 of the almost 19,000 pharmacies in Germany are already listed for this.

According to the Ministry of Health, the document with the necessary QR code cannot only be issued in pharmacies. Those who still receive their second vaccination will in future also receive their digital vaccination certificate in vaccination centers or doctors’ offices.

Vaccinated persons can then scan the QR code printed on the vaccination certificate with one of the vaccination pass app. Since last week, the app “CovPass“is available for all interested parties to download in the smartphone app stores. Alternatively, the QR code can also be stored in the Corona warning app embed.

What do I get with the digital vaccination certificate?

The app can then be used as a kind of digital ID. Travelers then only need to show the forgery-proof QR code in the app to confirm that they are either fully vaccinated or tested negative. The digital certificate also offers the opportunity to prove vaccination protection in restaurants, shops or at sporting and cultural events.

Important: The QR code can only be displayed after 14 days have passed after the last vaccination. When checked, the QR code only shows the most necessary information, such as vaccination status, name and date of birth. In addition to the app, a valid identification document, such as an identity card, is also required.

Will the digital vaccination certificate be compulsory?

No. “The digital vaccination certificate is only a voluntary and additional offer,” says a current information from the Federal Ministry of Health. Anyone who does not have a digital vaccination certificate can still prove a vaccination using the yellow vaccination card.
