12/27/21 – Farewell, Katyushka
Probably the oldest female polar bear in Europe died in her home, the Berlin Zoo, at the age of an impressive 37. The nursing staff found the female polar bear by the name of Katjuschka dead in the outer area of her enclosure on December 24th. According to the staff, she had had a heart disease for some time and probably succumbed to these ailments. Still a considerable age, because polar bears often do not get older than 25 to 30 years in their natural habitat. Katjuschka was born in 2006 and raised by hand, soon had many fans and for a long time caused a huge rush to the zoo. With her passing, there is no longer a polar bear in the Berlin zoo.
