Ofcom media regulator has rejected a complaint by Duchess Meghan against Piers Morgan.

The British media regulator Ofcom has rejected thousands of complaints against moderator Piers Morgan (56). Numerous viewers and allegedly Duchess Meghan (40) had complained to the ITV broadcaster and the media supervisory authority after Morgan made derogatory comments.

According to the agency, more than 50,000 complaints have been received – many of them via a Morgan comment on Meghan’s mental health. The decision that has now been published is well considered. Morgan’s comments were “potentially harmful and offensive”. But “freedom of expression in its entirety” was also taken into account. Broadcasters are allowed to broadcast “controversial opinions” as long as they are “part of a legitimate debate in the public interest”.

In addition, other people in the show created “important context” for the audience. At the same time, ITV has been asked to exercise greater care in the future when it comes to issues such as mental health.

What happened?

After the sensational interview by Meghan and Prince Harry (36) with Oprah Winfrey (67), the statements of the two were also discussed on “Good Morning Britain” in March. In the conversation with the US presenter, the Duchess said, among other things, that she had psychological problems and suicidal thoughts during her time in London. Morgan stated on TV that he “didn’t believe a word” of Meghan.

According to a report of the “Guardian” The broadcaster apparently wanted Morgan to apologize for his remarks in another broadcast. After a discussion, the presenter left the show. A little later, the station published a statement that Morgan had decided to leave the show entirely.
