Pixel War: this accelerated video of day 1 shows the effectiveness of the French

In just a few minutes, the French communities managed to take over the entire left surface of r/place, before spending hours creating works of art. Like last year, France is dominating the Reddit game.

Amid hundreds of insulting messages to Spez, the boss of Reddit decried for his policy changes, the work done by the French on r/place, Reddit’s collaborative drawing game, is impressive. As in 2022, when the “Pixel War” had become a viral phenomenon opposing France to Spain, France once again stands out as one of the best, if not the best, in the game of Reddit. The French flag covers a huge part of the drawing area, while the works paying homage to French culture appear little by little.

Even though Day 1 isn’t officially over (Reddit kicked off at 3 p.m. on July 20), the company has posted a timelapse of player activity during the early hours of r/place 2023 (between 3 p.m. and midnight). We discover the conquest of the French, who extended to secure their space, before starting to draw.

France in full territorial conquest

It’s no surprise, from the start of the game, France went to secure their space from last year. A French flag appeared within seconds, before rising to stretch to the top of the map. In just a few minutes, France has won its bet. She obliterated the German flag which blocked her way and repelled the first attacks from abroad. The presence of the French flag is much less disputed than last year, even if the enlargement of the map in the next few hours could lower the cards.

France’s first drawing was dedicated to Mont-Saint-Michel, after honoring the Arc de Triomphe last year. In the evening, France began incredible work, with a fresco paying homage to the women who marked the country, but also winks to the GP Explorer and Kameto (the star of the previous Pixel War), not to forget the web culture.

The Pixel War is expected to wrap up this weekend with plenty of new builds until then. France has two missions: to repel the attacks and to continue to develop its designs.
