When Lenovo acquired Motorola many years ago, the plan was actually to end Motorola as a brand and strengthen Lenovo. That hasn’t happened, but according to the latest information, it doesn’t seem to be off the table yet. Lenovo is now supposed to come back with a smartphone cracker and a special name.
Lenovo ThinkPhone based on ThinkPad
Lenovo already built Android smartphones under its own flag a few years ago, but was unable to establish itself with these either internationally or in the Chinese home market. Recently, however, the company has been coming back into the smartphone market more and more, because the brand that was taken over by Google in 2014 currently offers some interesting smartphones. However, Lenovo probably doesn’t want to give up the idea of smartphones under its own brand identity just yet. With the Lenovo ThinkPhone, a smartphone is to be released that is based on the legendary ThinkPad notebooks. Lenovo had also bought the ThinkPad brand – in 2005 from IBM.

Visually, some Find similarities between the alleged Lenovo ThinkPhone and the ThinkPads. There is the classic lettering on the back. Maybe even Think’s i could light up when there are notifications. The material on the back is also similar to that of the laptops. However, the shape is not as angular as one would expect. The cell phone is clearly rounded on the frame and the corners so that it can be held properly in the hand as a normal smartphone. It is not clear whether the classic red TrackPoint exists (but it is also not to be expected).

Lenovo ThinkPhone with high-end hardware
The Lenovo ThinkPhone is said to be based on an as yet unknown Motorola high-end cell phone codenamed Bronco. This should appear with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or 8+ Gen 1, a display with Full HD+, up to 12 GB RAM and high-resolution cameras that should take good photos. Whether Lenovo really implements a copy of the Motorola cell phone, which only differs visually, remains to be seen. As a Lenovo cell phone, business customers would also be an interesting target group. The ThinkPhone is expected for 2023.
