There PlayStation 5 “Pro” has not been announced, and yet it seems that everyone already knows what she would have in her stomach. The open secret dimension is so important that even some developers present at the Games Developers Conference are talking about it.

Created in 1987, the Games Developers Conference is an event reserved for professionals during which people who make video games come together to meet, discuss the latest technologies or the challenges encountered during various productions. Organized around panels, it is an opportunity for all developers, but also for the online public, to find out a little more about how games are created.

PlayStation 5 “Pro”: limited interest?

In the same way that the PS4 Pro came to offer a mid-generation improvement for the PS4, Sony is reportedly preparing a PS5 Pro. Several sources confirm this idea and, even if the manufacturer has not announced anything on this subject, we would even already have the characteristics of the machine. Present at the Games Developers Conference, the Games Industry team was able to speak with many developers. According to Christopher Dring, who spoke on this subject in a dedicated podcast, many of the professionals present on site would find the upcoming arrival of a PS5 Pro premature:

The developers don’t seem to think they need it, at least the ones I’ve spoken with. Many of them think that they already aren’t really getting the best out of the PS5. Some companies told me that this would not grow the market, and that its impact would be small. This generation doesn’t seem to have started yet, which makes the need for a mid-generation update even less felt. »

It is true that for many players, the current generation, made up of the PS5 and Xbox Series, has not yet started. Titles exclusive to the new generation are rare, and manufacturers still rely heavily on so-called cross-gen versions. It must be said that the launch of the generation did not take place in the best conditions. Developments were greatly disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and business shutdowns led to a long shortage of semiconductors.

PS5 “Pro”: leaks in all directions

For several weeks, indiscretions have continued to multiply around this improved console that Sony never announced. On March 15, the YouTube channel “Moore’s Law is Dead” added a new video, since deleted at the request of Sony Interactive Entertainment. In it, the videographer claimed to have obtained the technical documents relating to this famous and unofficial PS5 Pro. The reliability of the information broadcast was then confirmed by the Insider Gaming site from its own sources.

The computing power would increase significantly, but the technical innovations would mainly be in the architecture of the onboard graphics card. The processor would remain the same, but players would benefit from a quantum leap in ray-tracing performance, and a PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution mode, a proprietary upscaling technology close to DLSS or FSR.

To summarize, we would be talking here about an overall power 45% higher than that of the classic PS5. Obviously, all this is purely theoretical while waiting for Sony to speak out about this console, whether to announce it or refute its existence. Regardless, many developers don’t seem too excited about it.
