Xbox Game Pass is one of Microsoft’s best responses to Sony. It is in particular the Ultimate formula which is a hit, since it allows you to play in cloud gaming from numerous devices with a huge catalog, including that of Activision Blizzard which is due to arrive in 2024. Aware of its delay in the field, Sony is reportedly preparing its response by allowing game streaming from web browsers and connected televisions via a PlayStation Plus 3.0. But that’s not all !
Extending cloud gaming to web browsers and connected TVs
The information comes from documents leaked by hackers who attacked Insomniac Games, developer of Marvel’s Spider-Man. We learn that Sony wants to extend PlayStation Plus cloud gaming to various devices to reach a larger number of players during a 3.0 phase. In addition to web browsers and connected televisions, we are talking about partnerships envisaged with Amazon Fire TV or even Android TV and Sony Bravia.
But the project goes further, since these devices would also provide access to the conglomerate’s films, series and other cultural products.

Sony would like to make PlayStation Plus a “essential family subscription”. The company has recently positioned itself in the entertainment sector, notably by getting its hands on Crunchyroll or by adapting its franchises to cinema with films Uncharted And Gran Turismo. The PlayStation brand therefore wants to be cross-media, like its competitors. After all, Nintendo found success thanks to the feature film Super Mario Bros. and a live-action The Legend of Zelda is in the pipeline. Microsoft will launch the series fallout on Prime Video while Halo is already available from Paramount+.
PlayStation Plus 3.0 would therefore not be limited to native video games or cloud gaming. Sony’s goal would be to provide access to all of its services, whatever they may be, from a wide range of devices. Until now, the manufacturer has limited itself to its ecosystem, within which the PlayStation occupies a central place. The next step would therefore be to aim broader.
