PlayStation Stars: a French release date for the loyalty program and a FAQ to understand everything

This summer, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced PlayStation Starsa loyalty program that will reward players with points and “digital collectibles”, which are not NFT and will simply act as Trophies 2.0 serving no particular purpose except to inflate our ego. Well, this initiative was launched in Asia today and will land in America on October 5, then in France and the rest of Europe as well as Australia on October 13.

Everything detailed on the PlayStation-Blog with an FAQ answering most of the questions that can be asked.

What an exciting time for PlayStation! Today marks the first regional launch of our new loyalty program, PlayStation Stars. I am delighted to launch this new initiative for our PlayStation community. This program, first available in Asia, celebrates the achievements of our players through entertaining and rewarding campaigns to earn rewards, such as points and digital collectibles.

We’re starting our global PlayStation Stars rollout with this launch, but it’s just the beginning. We will of course continue to evolve the program by adding features, rewards and benefits, as well as new ways to enjoy what you love about the PlayStation universe.

Let’s take a look at the main details of this program.

When will the PlayStation Stars program be available?

Below are the PlayStation Stars launch dates:

  • Asia including Japan: September 29 (local time);
  • North and South America: October 5 (local time);
  • Europe and Australia: October 13 (local time).

What do I need to join PlayStation Stars? Is a PlayStation Plus subscription required?

PlayStation Stars is a free program. All you need is an adult PlayStation Network account and acceptance of the program’s Terms of Service. Although a PlayStation Plus membership offers certain benefits, membership is not required to join PlayStation Stars.

How do I access PlayStation Stars?

The full PlayStation Stars experience can be accessed through the PlayStation App on iOS and Android. You can also join PlayStation Stars from the site playstation.com.

We plan to extend the service to consoles soon.

How does the program work?

With PlayStation Stars, you earn rewards for completing a variety of campaigns and activities. With the “Monthly Login” campaign, all you have to do is play a game to get a reward. Other campaigns will require earning specific trophies, or being one of the first players to achieve the platinum trophy for a hit in your country/region. One of our first campaigns is called ‘Press Play / 1994’. Members will need to run the matching games for song-based clues to get a special collectible.

The campaigns will be regularly updated. Do not hesitate to come back to the PlayStation App application to discover what’s new.

What rewards can I get?

There are two types of rewards: loyalty points and digital collectibles. Points can be used in a catalog that may include funds for the PSN wallet, exclusive digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store merchandise. PlayStation Plus subscribers registered for PlayStation Stars will automatically earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store*.

Digital collectibles are stunning virtual representations of items beloved by PlayStation fans, such as figurines of iconic characters from games or other forms of entertainment, as well as peripherals celebrating Sony’s history and innovations. You’ll always find new collectibles to earn, ultra rare items to covet, or something surprising to collect for fun.

You can store the digital collectibles you win in a display case in the PlayStation App. Then, it’s up to you whether or not to share it with other players.

Upon release, upon joining the program, all members will receive the Stargazer Telescope item. The first digital collectibles to be obtained will include Punto the gondolier from Ape Escape 2, the PocketStation, Toro and Kuro, and many more.

Are digital collectibles unique? Can I sell or trade my digital collectibles?

These digital collectibles were created especially for our loyalty program. Although some of them may be rare, they are not unique and do not use blockchain technology. They cannot be resold or exchanged. Digital collectibles are only available through the PlayStation Stars program.

How is the rarity level of a digital collectible determined?

The rarity level of a digital collectible is displayed on the campaign detail screen, as well as on the item’s details page.

How do I track my points and use them?

You can check your points balance in the PlayStation App under Player Profile / PlayStation Stars Points History. You can redeem your points for items from the Rewards Catalog. This can feature digital collectibles, games, or funds for the digital PSN wallet.

To redeem your points, go to the PlayStation App > Player Profile > PlayStation Stars > Rewards Catalog.

What benefits can I enjoy as a PlayStation Plus subscriber if I join PlayStation Stars?

No PlayStation Plus subscription is required to join the PlayStation Stars program. However, as a PlayStation Plus subscriber, if you join PlayStation Stars, you will earn points for your PlayStation Store purchases, including payment for your PlayStation Plus subscription. Note: Replenishing the PSN wallet does not earn PlayStation Stars points.

What are the status levels?

PlayStation Stars has four status levels corresponding to the milestones you reach. They are based on the number of rare trophies won, but also on the number of full games purchased on the PlayStation Store. The higher your level, the more benefits you can get.

How long will I maintain my current status level?

When you reach a new status level, you stay there for the rest of the calendar year, plus an additional 13 months. For example, if you reach the 2nd level of status in October, it remains active until the end of the current calendar year and continues for the following 13 months from January 1 of the following year, i.e. until January 31 of the following year.
