Podcast. Are the new migrant camps in Greece really more human?

The Greek island of Samos is located less than two kilometers from Turkey. After many years spent welcoming migrants in an old dilapidated camp, a new camp, more comfortable but also ultra-secure, was inaugurated on September 18.

During his visit to Greece, the French Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, praised, Monday, October 11, this new device and encouraged the other countries of the south of the European Union to build “closed” camps like that of Samos.

What does this new camp look like? Why does it arouse the enthusiasm of the French minister and criticism from human rights defenders? What is the situation on the border between Greece and Turkey?

Marina Rafenberg, journalist and correspondent for The world in Athens, went there, and takes stock of the situation in this episode of “L’Heure du Monde”.

An episode produced by Clément Baudet, directed by Amandine Robillard and presented by Jean-Guillaume Santi.
