Point de Presse – “Omikron will take over by the beginning of January at the latest”

The experts assume that the Omikron variant will dominate infections over the turn of the year.

The occupancy rate of the intensive care beds is currently around 80 percent. There is still little data on the course of Omikron’s disease, but it can be assumed that there will be an increase in hospitalizations.

There is enough vaccine for everyone. Both for those who are now admitted to the booster and for toddlers.

Despite Omikron, the federal government is sticking to the current measures for the time being. However, these could be adjusted if necessary. An FFP-2 mask requirement is currently not announced.

The situation among health workers remains tense. Hauri hardly sees any more opportunities to recruit new employees. In addition, it can be assumed that more staff will be absent due to infections.

Following the announcement by the Federal Council, the FOPH and the Federal Commission for Vaccination Issues (EKIF) adjusted their recommendation: booster vaccination with an mRNA vaccine is now recommended for everyone aged 16 and over from four instead of six months after the primary vaccination.
