The output of Pokemon Scarlet and Purple is approaching more and Nintendo is stepping up its communication by revealing new things about the open-world RPG. After spotlighting a brand new Pokémon, we’re treated to a big trailer with a signature song Ed Sheeran and lots of information about upcoming content. We take stock.
“Celestial”
This is the title of this famous song which gives this trailer Pokemon Scarlet and Purple a rather magical, even nostalgic side. Even if the video gives an overview of the game with the fights, the encounters, the exploration… it still lingers on the good-natured and epic side of these new opuses.
The Violet Book and the Scarlet Book
The Scarlet and Violet Books, which will appear respectively in the corresponding versions, are reports of an expedition. They were written a very long time ago while crossing an unexplored area of the Paldea region, but it is unknown whether the tales described in the books are true or not. It seems that Pepper always carries a copy of one of the books with him.
Two new mysterious Pokémon
In these books, we discover the sketch of a Pokémon encountered by the explorers. According to the images provided by Nintendo, it seems that we have in the game a new species of Donphan or a third evolution depending on the version:
- In the book Scarlet, the monster is nicknamed “Fort-Ivoire”. He attacked the expedition team with his large body and tusks, mortally wounding one of the explorers.
- In the Violet Book, the monster is called “Wheel-of-Iron”it coils and rolls to attack leaving behind a burning trail dug into the ground.
Dark Crystal Teracrystal Raids and Event Raids
During your adventures in Pokemon Scarlet and Purple, you will be able to obtain Pokémon that can teracrystallize and thus obtain a special power. One of the ways to capture it is the accomplishment of Teracrystal raids which are triggered by interacting with sparkling crystals on the map. After that, we enter a real-time four-player battle.
As noted today, some will be special or available for limited time periods:
- Dark Crystal Teracrystal Raids : The Pokémon in these Dark Crystal Raids are more powerful than those in regular Raids. They only appear for a limited time. Defeating these Pokemon also yields much better rewards.
- Event-driven Teracrystal raids: They will be available after the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple and will allow you to face specific Pokémon more often, or Pokémon with particular Teracrystal types. Crystals related to these raids look a bit like regular crystals but are surrounded by a mysterious aura.
Charizard and Eevee for the first special raids of the game
We already have some dates for the first Dark Crystal Teracrystal Raids and Event Teracrystal Raids. These will notably allow you to obtain a Charizard (this will be the only way to obtain it in the games) and special Eevee:
- Charizard with the Empowered Insignia will appear in Dark Crystal Teracrystal raids during two periods: from December 2 to 4, then from December 16 to 18. Charizard is not normally present in Paldea, and the one that will appear during this event has the Teracrystal Dragon type. This special Charizard can only be obtained once per save.
- The very first event raids will be Eevee raidsthey will take place from Friday 25 November to Sunday 27 November 2022. During this event, Eevee will appear more often in Teracrystal raids, and they will possess various Teracrystal types.

Online Features and Ranked Battles
The day of the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Purple, a 1.01 1 GB update will need to be installed in order to benefit from all online features already known, such as Teracrystal raids or exploring your friends’ worlds.
For competition buffs, we now know more about online matches. Here’s what you need to know:
- Friendlies and Battle Stadium will be available when the games are released.
- Ranked matches will be available from next December without further details.
- online competitions (or online tournaments) are scheduled for spring 2023.
At the same time, it was also learned that the compatibility between Pokemon Scarlet and Purple and the Pokemon HOME is scheduled for spring 2023.
